When you need it

When a Partial Rewire Makes Sense

The most urgent reason people call us for a partial rewire is a failed EICR. If you're a landlord, the law in England requires your rental property's electrics to be inspected every five years, and any C1 or C2 faults must be fixed within 28 days or less. Often that means replacing a handful of circuits rather than the whole house. We can usually start within days and give you the paperwork to prove the work is done.

The second most common reason is building work. A new kitchen, an extension or a loft conversion needs new circuits, and it's the perfect moment to replace old wiring in the rooms affected. We work alongside your builder or kitchen fitter so the first fix happens before plastering, which saves you time and mess.

A partial rewire also makes sense when one part of the house has older wiring than the rest. That's common in Milton Keynes homes that were extended in the 1980s or 1990s, and in older properties in Stony Stratford, Olney and Newport Pagnell that have been improved bit by bit.

Is a partial rewire always enough?

Not always, and we'll be honest with you. If the rest of the wiring is old, or your consumer unit has no RCD protection, adding new circuits to it can be unsafe or simply not allowed under the regulations. In that case, we'll explain whether a consumer unit upgrade or a full house rewire is the better long-term choice.

FAQs

Partial Rewire FAQs

Can you rewire just one room?

Yes. As long as the circuit and your consumer unit can safely support it, we can rewire a single room. We'll check this at the survey.

Is a partial rewire enough after a failed EICR?

Often, yes. Many EICR failures relate to specific circuits or the consumer unit rather than the whole house. We'll price the remedial work directly from your report.

Will new wiring work with my existing wiring?

New circuits can be connected to an existing installation, but only if the existing system is safe and has suitable protection. If it doesn't, we'll recommend a consumer unit upgrade first.
